There were many acts of heroism and sacrifice by Union regiments at the Battle of Gettysburg.  The 20th Maine's stand at Little Round Top is one of those.  However another, the 16th Maine, played what was possibly as pivotal in the final outcome of the three day battle.  Their action allowed the outnumbered and disorganized Union Army to regroup and form new lines beyond Gettysburg at Cemetary Hill.  There the Union Army was reinforced and set up a defense that repulsed the Confederate advances the following two days of the battle.
